Converting DVD's to WMV (i.e. put them on your hard drive)
I am not a huge movie buff but I am enjoying the Eee PC for media viewing. We are planning on going back to Europe and I am trying to catch up on some Rick Steve's Europe episodes on DVD. What's a boy to do? Well why not convert them to Windows Media file format so I can copy them to my hard drive and watch them whenever I feel like it. There are a number of programs which will do this. All around $30 in cost. I would encourage you to try the demos to see which one works for you. I am using SPB Software's Mobile DVD application. It's about as idiot proof as possible. Visit the SPB web site to learn more. This is a time consuming process. You might want to do the conversions at night or when you are not using your PC for other duties. A 90 minute dvd can take 2-4 hours to convert.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobiledvd/?en - $24.95 a 90 min conversion to 800x480 format is about 450mb in size.
Search your favorite search engine for DVD to WMV and you can learn more. The Eee PC makes a nice media player.
